Rosedale has built an innovative course portfolio with an emphasis an on transformative competency development. Learning activities, assessments, and evaluations are carefully designed to provide students with opportunities to develop, practice, and reflect on the skills needed to become proficient with these competencies. Each course has a unique competency profile that highlights the skill development that has been integrated into the course design through opportunities for critical thinking, problem solving, innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship, collaboration, and communication.

The evaluations in Rosedale courses provide opportunities to evaluate and report on student achievement of the transformative competencies. In addition, information about student achievement of competencies is gathered through implementation of collaborative learning and formative activities that take place within the classrooms of the partner schools. Competencies are linked to specific learning activities and evaluations so that they can be measured, tracked, and reported for individual students across different subjects.

Rosedale provides detailed instructional guides to accompany every lesson that clearly identify the transformative competencies that are being developed and measured in each activity or evaluation. These instructional guides provide teachers with instructional strategies that support the development of the skills associated with the competencies, such as: Critical thinking, creative thinking, the use of questioning, promoting student talk, and providing formative feedback.

Rosedale’s comprehensive teacher development programs provide teachers the opportunity to learn, practice and apply competency-specific instructional strategies from fundamental to advanced levels utilizing variety of formats, including subject-specific examples, lectures, instruction demonstrations, workshops, teaching in practice and feedback/experience sharing from our expert educators.

Every course features an “Innovation Commons” that is used to inspire and invite students to explore the real–world applications and innovations related to the concepts they are learning. Specifically, in STEM courses, students are invited to generate creative and innovative solutions through problem based learning scenarios and design thinking processes.

Rosedale provides opportunities for students to participate in global mobility programs, short-term learning abroad programs and co-curricular activities with peers around the world. Through a comprehensive Individual Growth Plan (IGP) program, Rosedale offers students in-depth exposure of global university programs and career possibilities, and engages student in the creation of a personal pathway that encourages students to explore opportunities around the world.

Our instructional guides provide teachers in our international partner schools with the suggestions and resources needed to allow them adapt and apply learning content and activities to reflect various perspectives and diversity, both locally and globally. Instructional guides include instructional strategies and activities that encourage students to share their ideas, engage in global citizenship and learn from rest of the world.

Our teacher development program and IGP training program provide comprehensive resources and instructional strategies to engage students in global learning and global leadership development. IGP practice training provides the processes and tools that support local counsellors to guide student personal growth beyond classroom and in a global context. In Rosedale training and development programs, teachers work with other educators around the world, share experiences and learn from each other to help broaden their viewpoints and positively impacts their teaching practice and student learning.

Rosedale students are evaluated throughout the course using multiple diverse evaluation tasks, including rich performance tasks, oral presentations, and traditional tests and exams. Evaluation tasks involve written elements, such as essays, letters, and journals; visual elements such as infographics, artwork and presentations; and/or audio-visual forms such as orations, video journals and dramatic presentations.

Each Rosedale lesson includes differentiated instructional resources and differentiated instructional strategies that teachers may implement to address the learning needs of their students. Our courses also integrate diagnostic tools for teachers to assess student learning at different stages of the learning process and adapt and apply differentiation appropriately.

Our teacher development programs focus on training classroom teachers to use differentiated instructional strategies and resources to adapt content to support the various learning needs of their students. Teachers learn how to scaffold learning content for students facing difficulty and how to enhance learning for high achievers. Teachers also learn how to help students build upon and use their strengths to be successful on the diverse Rosedale evaluations.

Pillar Five: Personalized Learning Path

Rosedale empowers students to take ownership of their learning by allowing them to create a Personalized Learning Path comprised of courses that reflect their strengths, interests, and alignment with university programs and career aspirations. Through their Personalized Learning Path and Individual Growth Plan (IGP), students are encouraged to explore global opportunities and recognize the many pathways available to them. Enhanced learning experiences through co-curricular activities and experiential learning challenge students to set goals, expand their personal growth and mindset, leading to individualized achievement.

Our offer a diverse OSSD course portfolio that contains more than 50 courses. Our courses prepare students for university admission at universities around the world. In addition to preparing students for university, some specialty courses allow students to pursue specific areas in depth. Our courses also provide students with many cross-disciplinary and project-based learning opportunities. Students are able to create their own personalized learning path that aligns with their strengths and interests, meets requirements for post-secondary admission, and prepares them for their future careers.

Rosedale Global High School is based on the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) system. Global university admission is based on the average of the top six marks a student earns in their Grade 12 courses (including Grade 12 English). The exact requirements for admission are determined by each individual university program. The OSSD university acceptance criteria provide a policy level foundation for Rosedale Global High School and allows students to create a strength-based and university/career aligned Personalized Learning Path with the goal of university admission.

Rosedale provides comprehensive resources to for international partner schools to support the implementation of the Individual Growth Plan. The Individual Growth Plan empowers teachers and counsellors at local schools in the Global High School Program to effectively co-create a Personalized Learning Path, Skill Development Plan, Post-Secondary Plan and Extra-Curricular Plan with students.

Rosedale’s training program for the Individual Growth Plan equips teachers and counsellors in our international partner schools with the platforms, resources, tools, handbooks, and templates to implement our student-centred program. Rosedale’s team of academic advisors also supports all international partner schools in the creation of Personalized Learning Paths.
