SCH4U - Chemistry 12 (2024-25) - A
SCH4U-25A
*5-3H: Galvanic Cell Lab [5%]
Description
Overall Expectations
Scientific Investigation Skills and Career Exploration (A1)
-
I will be able to demonstrate scientific investigation skills (related to both inquiry and research) in the four areas of skills (initiating and planning, performing and recording, analysing and interpreting, and communicating)
Electrochemistry (F2, F3)
-
I will be able to investigate oxidation-reduction reactions using a galvanic cell, and analyse electrochemical reactions in qualitative and quantitative terms
-
I will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the principles of oxidation-reduction reactions and the many practical applications of electrochemistry
-
I will be able to use appropriate terminology related to electrochemistry
Success Criteria:
I know I have achieved the goals for this lesson when I can:
- I can compile data from lab or other sources ,and organize and record data using appropriate formats
- I can use appropriate terminology related to the rate of electrochemisty
- I can describe the principles that allow a galvanic cell to produce electrical energy.
- I can build a Galvanic cell using common lab equipment and chemicals
- I can predict whether redox reactions will occur on half-cell reactions
