Description

1-7G: Nanotechnology Response [CTA]

This is a CTA Activity.

Learning Goals

    • Evaluate the benefits to society, and the impact on the environment, of specialized materials that have been created on the basis of scientific research into the structure of matter and chemical bonding (nanotechnology)

Forum Instructions

In the forum located below, please do the following:

    • Create a post around 75 to 150 words long:

    • Share your feelings about the following comment: "Nanotechnology is a dangerous field of science that will likely have unforeseen negative consequences to humanity in the future."

    • You may choose to agree or disagree. Use evidence from your report on nanotechnology to back up your responses.

    • Respond to at least one other post using the  two stars and a wish format

    • You will identify two positive aspects  of the forum post. You can share your thoughts about their response, elements you found surprising or interesting or anything else you want to share.

    • Then you will express one wish about what your course-mate might do next time in order to improve another aspect of the work.

Success Criteria

You can assess your work against the success criteria that is listed here:

Understanding of concepts

I demonstrated an understanding of nanotechnology: what it is and how it works.

Use os critical/creative thinking processes, skills, and strategies

I used my report and my understanding of concepts to evaluate and analyze the safety of nanotechnology.

Expression and organization of ideas and information in written forms

I posted a clear and organized response using polite and respectful language.

Making connections between science, technology, society, and the environment

I made connections between the science of nanotechnology and its safety for society.

Make sure your POST and RESPONSE meet all the Level 4 criteria listed below:

Everything has both positives and negatives about them. However, I personally think that the advantages of nanotechnology outweigh disadvantages. Nanotechnology has lots of potential to greatly impact the world through innovation. It could help us to treat serious diseases and develop new technologies. The potential of nanotechnology is tremendous which may alter the speed of the development of science. Therefore, I agree that nanotechnology has negative effects, but people should not stop researching it as it has lots of untapped potential. Further, with advanced research we can learn how to get rid of the negatives of nanotechnology.
