Factors Affecting Reaction Rate - Temperature Lab
Introduction: The rate (or speed) at which a chemical reaction takes place can give clues about the nature of the reactants, the energy changes involved and the conditions that the reaction occured. In this activity, you will perform an experiment in a virtual lab to measure how different factors can impact the rate of a reaction and in later activities you will discover the reasons behind how and why these factors impact reactions rate.
In this activity you will explore how temperature, concentration, and particle size effect reaction rates as you complete a virtual lab. The reaction rate is a measure of the amount of time it takes for a reaction to occur.
Instructions
In this lab, you will measure the reaction rate by measuring how long it takes for an antacid to dissolve at different temperatures. If you need assistance with this experimental design contact your teacher.
Notes:
- Click here to open the virtual lab in a new window.
- Click 'Run Reaction.' This is your control.
- Then, you can adjust the factors by clicking 'Select Variables'.
- Select your variable and either increase or decrease it and compare it to the control.
- Explore the different factors and play around with the Increase and Decrease.
- When you are done, summarize your findings in your notebook.
