SCH4U – Lesson Plan 4-1
Chemical Equilibrium
Lesson Big Idea:
Chemical reactions are dynamic events, occurring both forwards and backwards until a balancing point is reached. This balancing point is called equilibrium and is affected by different factors including concentration and the equilibrium constant.
Ministry Expectations:
E2.1
E2.2
E3.1
E3.2
E3.3
Learning Goals:
- Define dynamic equilibrium.
- Explain the concept of chemical equilibrium.
- Describe Le Chatelier's principle and apply it to solve problems predicting how changing variables will affect the chemical equilibrium of a system.
Success Criteria:
I know I have achieved the goals for this lesson when I can describe dynamic equilibrium and explain how it relates to chemical reactions. I will also be able to explain Le Chatelier's principle and use it to predict the direction of reactions when different variables such as temperature and concentration are changed.
