SCH4U – Lesson Plan 4-4

Lesson Big Idea:

Equilibrium is an important process in both chemical and biological systems.  Within the human body, multiple systems are in a state of equilibrium at any given time.  Our bodies are constantly working to maintain these equilibrium states but there are times when natural processes cannot effectively maintain them.  When these equilibrium are disrupted our bodies let us know.

Learning Goals:

    • Investigate equilibrium systems at work within the human body
    • Explore how these systems can be disrupted and what the consequences are when equilibrium is lost
    • Discover ways that we can help our bodies maintain the different states of equilibrium when they are disrupted

Success Criteria:

I know I have achieved the goals for this lesson when I can:

Describe equilibrium systems in the human body that act to maintain homeostasis.

Explain the consequences of equilibrium systems being disrupted in the human body.

Describe how people can act to help maintain homeostasis in the human body by affecting equilibrium systems.
