Welcome to lesson 1-2: The Quantum Mechanical Model of the Atom. In this lesson you will discover how the model of the atom evolved beyond Bohr & Rutherford to the modern, Quantum Model of the Atom. This lesson introduces the 4 quantum numbers and how they relate to orbital energy, shape, orientation and electron spin.
Learning Goals:

- Understand that electrons do not orbit the nucleus in the circular pattern that Bohr theorized.
- Understand how orbitals are distributed within an atomic shell.
- Explain how quantum numbers describe electrons and their orbitals.
Success Criteria
I know I have achieved the learning goals when I can describe electrons and atomic orbitals using quantum numbers.
