Description

Welcome to lesson 1-4: 3-D Shapes: VSEPR. The shapes of molecules depends on many factors including the number of atoms, types of bonds and electron configuration of atoms within the molecule. By using Lewis structures and employing VSEPR theory we can predict and explain molecular shapes and bond angles for both simple and complex molecules.

Learning Goals:

By the end of this lesson you will:

      • Learn how neighbouring electron groups influence 3-D shapes of chemical structures.
      • Demonstrate how to predict molecular shapes based on VSEPR theory.
      • Describe molecular shapes in terms of names, structures and bond angles.

Success Criteria:

I know I have achieved the learning goals when I can predict, draw and name the 3-D shape of a molecule using VSEPR theory.
